Gas Leaks
Unauthorized electrical grounding to Natural Gas Meters
Xcel Energy has recently seen a steady increase in grounding attachments to the supply side of the meter. This type of attachment negatively impacts the cathodic protection system on the gas system that is intended to prevent corrosion and leaks on natural gas pipelines. Not to be mistaken with the yellow tracer wire used for underground gas pipe locating, the grounding attachments are typically a bare copper or green wire connected to the home itself. Code Red Heart uses the approved methods for checking leakages approved by the International Fuel Gas Code. We use approved gas leak detectors, a noncorrosive leak detection fluid or other approved leak detection methods.
